Festival 2018

The 27th REC-Filmfestival took place in the wonderful ufaFabrik in Berlin-Tempelhof from the 19th to 23rd of September 2018.

This were the awarded films 2018

Nearly 700 films from 35 countries had been submitted, that is in total 91 hours. We had selected 69 films from 20 countries:
33 films in the competition REC for Kids (age 6 – 15) and
36 films in the competition REC Internationales junges Filmfestival (age 16 – 27)
This was the  REC Filmfestival 2018 – program english

The REC-filmfestival shows an ambitious program: In the films you will find the personal traces and effects of an unstable world: fear of loss, sexual violence, insecurity, stories of losers, the crises have seeped into personal life. In our „REC Internationales junges Filmfestival“ competition, the films of the young professionals reflect this mood – the programmes „Injuries“, „The Dark Side of the Moon“ and „Identity“ – provide exciting insights into a world that knows little about certainties.

Another focus of this year’s programme: films by young women
In the film business it is still predominant – the male gaze. Most positions of responsibility, such as direction, camera and production, are still filled by men in film and television. On the one hand so traditional power relations and thus the male view, are determinating our media. On the other hand, is there the female gaze, a female way of telling stories? Let’s see – in our „REC Internationales junges Filmfestival“ competition, 23 out of 36 films were made by young female directors. On Thursday at 7 pm we will show the film programme „Thursday is Women’s Day“ and before, on Thursday at 6 pm, there will be a lecture hold by Kirsten Ellerbrake about professional film production at the renowned film production company „Ziegler Film“.

At the end of the festival, the grand award ceremony will take place again. The prizes are awarded by 6 juries in different prize categories:
The jury for „REC Internationales junges Filmfestival“ consists of three experienced filmmakers and cinematographers, including a young filmmaker who has won the documentary clip several times in recent years. As in previous years, this jury will again give spontaneous feedback on each individual film immediately after the individual film programmes. And once again this year we will be awarding the docu-clip given by the „International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film“. And there is a completely new award: „Ziegler Film“ Production will screen the best Berlin film as pre- film in its cinema, Filmkunst 66 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. In addition, an internship will be offered at one of Ziegler-Film’s next cinema/TV productions.
At „REC for Kids“, in addition to the professional jury with two media pedagogically experienced jurors*, there is also a jury of three kids who will be awarded gold and silver clips in equal measure. Here you will find more information about REC for Kids
